Himmelskygge Brings Norwegian Contemporary Song Into Focus
LAWO Classics will release Himmelskygge in May 2026, a digital album that gathers several strands of Norwegian contemporary music into one 62-minute programme. The recording features mezzo-soprano Hege Høisæter, pianist Jorunn Marie Bratlie, composer-performer Kari Telstad Sundet on electronics, and the jazz ensemble Tov a Vot.
The ensemble Tov a Vot consists of Vetle Nærø on piano and keys, Theis Jakob on bass, and Ola Grindbakken on drums. Their presence gives the album an expanded palette, allowing the music to move between classical song, improvisatory energy, and electronically shaped sound.
At the centre of the recording is Kari Telstad Sundet’s cycle The Drift, which sets texts by Emily Dickinson. Sundet’s work combines acoustic instruments, voice, and electronics, creating an intimate and exploratory sound world in which the composer also participates as performer.
The album also includes music by Olav Anton Thommessen, Carl Gustav Sparre Olsen, Theis Jakob, and Gisle Kverndokk. Produced by Vegard Landaas and engineered by Thomas Wolden, Himmelskygge will be issued as LAWO Classics catalogue number LWC1383, with design by Blunderbuss and EAN 7090020183558.
