Have you ever wondered how much your favourite musicians get paid for their hard work? Indie band The Pocket Gods have been shining a light on the issue, particularly when it comes to streaming services like Spotify. 

Their documentary ‘The 30 Second Song Movie’ shows just how little artists are compensated for their streams – a mere £0.002 per stream, to be exact. To illustrate the problem, The Pocket Gods created 10 albums with 100 songs, each only 30 seconds long, to showcase the absurdity of the current system. 

But their campaign hit a major snag when Amazon removed the documentary from Prime Video without warning. It’s worth noting that Amazon also has its own music streaming service, which undoubtedly raises questions about their motives. 

Despite this setback, The Pocket Gods are not giving up. They’ve gained support from major news outlets and even Spotify’s founder, but they’re determined to keep fighting. Their latest move is to release one final album for £1m, with only one copy made, to fund their own ethical streaming platform. This platform will offer a payout of 1p per stream – 50 times more than Spotify’s rate. 

It’s time to join The Pocket Gods in their fight for fair compensation for artists. We need to hold streaming services accountable for their practices and demand that they treat musicians with the respect they deserve. The music industry simply cannot continue to operate in this unjust way.
