Welcome to our esteemed readers, who share our passion for classical and jazz music. Today, we are thrilled to discuss the latest release from one of Norway’s most renowned female choirs, Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening (KSS).

Led by the talented conductor Marit Tøndel Bodsberg Weyde, KSS has solidified its position as a leader in the choral world, captivating audiences with their powerful performances and seamless harmonies. Their newest release, “Magnificat,” marks a new era for the choir as they collaborate with two of Norway’s most innovative jazz musicians, double bassist Ellen Andrea Wang and saxophonist Hanna Paulsberg. This album marks Wang’s debut as a choir composer, with her original work drawing inspiration from the Virgin Mary.

The title track, “Magnificat,” is a soul-stirring choral piece that beautifully captures the emotions and experiences of Mary as she prepares to give birth to a child. Wang delves into the Gospel of Luke and Catholic Church liturgy to create a mesmerizing composition that profoundly reflects the female perspective. The album first premiered at the prestigious 2021 Molde Jazz Festival, where Wang was joined by her fellow performers, including the talented KSS choir, saxophonist Hanna Paulsberg, and vocalist and saxophonist.

With their breathtaking performances and commitment to showcasing the works of female composers, KSS continues to push boundaries and inspire audiences worldwide. The seamless fusion of jazz and choral harmonies on “Magnificat” will undoubtedly leave listeners captivated and enthralled. We highly recommend experiencing this one-of-a-kind musical masterpiece, as it pays a beautiful tribute to the Virgin Mary and the transformative power of female musicians. In conclusion, we are honoured to have shared with you the latest release from Kvindelige Studenters Sangforening, a truly exceptional and talented choir. Their dedication to showcasing the unique voices and perspectives of female composers is admirable, and we eagerly await more groundbreaking releases from them in the future.
