As the sun rises over the Scottish countryside, a new contender for the country’s anthem at the Euro 24 competition is emerging. Move over “Flower of Scotland,” as a group of footie-loving ravers have united to give Scotland a track that will take them to victory – “We Are The Tartan Army.”
This anthem was born out of a love for 90s/00s house and techno, but also a fierce pride in the Scottish national team. Andrew, one of the band members, was inspired by a crowd chanting “here we f*cking go” at a Primal Scream show and knew that the Scottish team deserved the same level of support. Teaming up with Guy Fforde, known for his popular electronic music breakdowns on YouTube, they were able to create a Fat Boy Slim inspired track that is both catchy and easy to pick up. It’s not hard to imagine stadiums filled with fans chanting “We Are The Tartan Army” as Scotland takes the pitch against Germany on June 14th in Munich for their first match of the Euros.
Along with the original track, Tartan Army ’24 is also releasing a German Acid mix that amplifies the dance elements to a whole new level. But the most exciting remix of them all is dedicated to and blessed by none other than sports broadcasting legend Shebahn Aherne. After a late-night writing session, the band was feeling stuck and decided to turn on the radio in frustration. But when they heard Shebahn’s TalkSport show, they were instantly inspired and got back to work. The result was the “We Are The Tartan Army Shebahn Aherne mix,” a remix that perfectly captures the passion and spirit of Scottish and football fans.
Fans across Scotland can now listen to “We Are The Tartan Army” on all platforms. Will this new anthem be the key to success for Scotland in the Euro 24 competition? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the Tartan Army will be standing strong and loud, ready to support their team to victory.
