“Inside Out” Shows Judith Owen Embracing Joy, Soul and Survival
With “Inside Out,” Judith Owen has released a song centered on joy, survival and self-acceptance. The single comes from Suit Yourself, her critically acclaimed album released via Twanky Records, and features Jamison Ross and the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir.
The track’s sound is steeped in New Orleans, blending soul, gospel, jazz and blues into an uplifting anthem. Ross, a Grammy Award-winning artist, producer, drummer and Snarky Puppy alum, co-wrote the song with Owen and also performs drums as part of her Gentlemen Callers. His contribution helps give the recording its movement, warmth and old-school soul character.
Owen has explained that the song reflects who she has finally allowed herself to become. Its message is rooted in the idea of finding happiness, hope and compassion even during hard times. She has tied that outlook to New Orleans, describing it as a city that understands life’s fragility and therefore knows how important it is to celebrate each day.
The Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir plays a crucial role in that celebration. Their gospel-infused vocals give “Inside Out” a communal energy, expanding the track from a personal statement into something larger and more universal. The song’s official video, directed by Josh Bagnall, was filmed at Fish Pot Studio in New Orleans in May 2026.
Suit Yourself features Owen’s Gentlemen Callers, the J.O. Big Band and guests including Davell Crawford, Joe Bonamassa and the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir.
