The best releases of 2020 so far.
With the final days of June behind us, we can’t believe it either, we are officially over halfway through 2020. It’s been an eventful start to the year to say the least but it has blessed us with many great releases from artists across the globe. Here are just a few of 2020’s best releases so far.
First up is the Amsterdam based Latanya Alberto, a soulful singer who just recently came onto the Pop Playlister radar. Latanya blessed us with a trio of live tracks in May of 2020, a beautiful, ethereal and effortless display of her immense talent. Our personal highlight on the project is ‘Heart Rate -Live’, a track the Pop Playlister team have had on repeat for weeks. You’ll wish you’d know about Latanya Alberto sooner.
It would be impossible to talk about new releases without mentioning City Girl’s latest album ‘City On Lock’. The unapologetic duo exude powerful, feminine energy and have produced a host of feel good, hot girl summer anthems. With features from Doja Cat, Lil Baby and Yo Gotti the project is not to be dismissed. They may not be to everyone’s taste, but City Girls are an important show of assertive womanhood and command respect from the Pop Playlister team.
Next up is Teyana Taylor with her incredible, 23-track long project ‘The Album’. Teyana Taylor has already established herself as a major player in new wave R&B, but latest release ‘The Album’ confirms her status as a queen of the genre. ‘The Album’ is a diverse project, featuring huge names such as Erykah Badu, Missy Elliot and Ms Lauryn Hill. With some of the most stunning album artwork the Pop Playlister team has ever seen ‘The Album’ by Teyana Taylor is set to make it onto our albums of the year for 2020.
Last but not least is one of the best and biggest collaboration singles of 2020 so far. ‘End of Daze’ features EARTHGANG & JID, Jurdan Bryant, Mereba, Hollywood JB. A line-up you could only dream of ‘End of Daze’ is a punchy rap track, infused with soulful vocals of Mereba and co. Collaborations this powerful are few and far between.
Happy Listening!
