We Dissect Berislav’s Spooky Video for ‘I Gave My Life’

As Halloween beckons, Berislav’s spooky video for his euro-pop hit ‘I Gave My Life’ is serving us the appropriate level of chills for the witching season. And we are going to put on our creepy surgical gloves, grab our rusty tools and dissect the hell out of it!

The video opens at night, with the shaven head Berislav going for a stroll with an attractive female partner (we’re assuming that there is some sexual tension here, you know, on account of the ear licking). Suddenly, a dark hooded figure interrupts the two friends (lovers?) by strangling Berislav to death. He falls slowly to the floor, before been taken away by some lady with maleficent-esque headgear. His female companion grips our fallen protagonist by the shoulders, shaking him in a futile fit of despair, while a choir sings in the background to really amp up the creepy vibe (I mean, when has choir singing in the dark ever not been super ominous). So far so intriguing.

Cut to an insanely muscly Berislav in a red leather trench coat, dancing jerkily, and in a zombie like fashion. His almost 360 head-rolls contain more than a hint of the Exorcist, and add a further element of body-horror to the choreography.

But what are these shadowy ghouls? Even in death, the black hooded figures continue to haunt Berislav– and we cut to a shot of two of them perched behind him, like supernatural, leather-clad ninjas. They continue to attack him for the rest of the video, eventually luring him to a eerie warehouse, sparsely populated with nude female mannequins.

Then comes the really impressive portion of choreography, a matrix inspired fight scene, which sees Berislav fight off the hooded figures with his bare hands (seriously, this dude is jacked).

The final scene anticipates the second part of this video trilogy (yay to more Berislav dancing!), with our hero suddenly sitting up bolt upright in his hospital bed with jet black, unhuman eyes. The camera zooms out, and the doctor turns his head before his eyes also turn black, leaving the viewer with a myriad of questions and a healthy dose of spine-chills.
