With a sound described as ‘Middle East Afro Beat’, S H I R A N has appeared with impressive style onto the Israeli music scene in the last year. But her story reaches farther across the world – after researching and following her family’s deep Yemenite roots S H I R A N decided to reconnect with her heritage…
She translated her songs into Yemenite Arabic, learning from a friend how to pronounce each word and letter – thus telling the story of her family’s migration from Yemen to Jerusalem through her unique musical style:
Her latest video and single, Zahere, is a surreal and fascinating visual journey, featuring beautiful landscapes and bizarre props. Her sound is a mix of both traditional and contemporary Arabic – with elements of Western soul and R&B as well.
Difficult to pin down, you quickly realise how unique S H I R A N ‘S musical output really is – her album is due out next month released on both CD and Vinyl by Batov Records.
