An Introduction to Alice’s Night Circus in Three Tracks!

Alice's Night Circus' eerie music

With a peculiar style, the ringmaster, Julia Scott, orchestrates Alice’s Night Circus. The famous children’s fairy-tale of Alice in Wonderland has been drawn into the dark side and inspired Julia to narrate this weird but wonderful music, only for those who dare to wonder into the fantasy world. Her magnificent theme of the circus has been combined with her musical influences such as Muse and Panic! At The Disco to create her own unique, mysterious style.

She had made a spectacular appearance at the world’s largest Steampunk festival, The Asylum in Lincoln, and is appearing as part of Gary Nicholls’ Imaginarium trilogy. She expresses herself through her self-created costumes and accessories for her live shows to produce a visual theatrical performance as well as aural.

The Show Must Go On

Her lead track to her latest album, ‘Metamorphose’, is ‘The Show Must Go On’. Her background of classical training as a child has especially shone through this track with her staggering vocals. She includes deep meaningful messages within it. She sings “the world is your stage” repetitively which indicates the importance of how you can make something marvellous and outstanding out of your world and that’s exactly what she is perusing. The sound she composes at the start of the track creates a futuristic and magical atmosphere which introduces her style clearly and her lyrics of “The show must go on” shows her attitude towards situations and conveys her as a determined, optimistic character and gives her audience motivation.

“The Show Must Go On” is due for release later this year.

Penny Dreadful

This track is inspired by her love of the Victorian macabre and old horror stories, hence the name. There is a consistent upbeat and lively beat running in the song which contrasts with the deeper meaning that Julia has within this track. She says it is about how media loves to build people up and then tear them down again. She has characters in this song, “Mr Strange” and “Penny”, which alone shows her theatrical side but also how there are narratives in her songs. Even her fans have been inspired to follow Julia’s passion of costume designing and they have produced costumes of these characters. There have also been several belly dancing and burlesque troupes that have created routines to this track.

Medusa

Having a completely different sound to the previous tracks, ‘Medusa’ was inspired by Julia’s Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which causes long term fatigue that stops people from carrying out every day activities, but Julia is still excelling regardless. This song has a more depressing atmosphere because of her unfortunate illness which is expressed through the slower pace. The lyrics portray her true emotion; “my darker side makes everything grey” and could show the reasoning of why her music has the style it does and why it can be interpreted as a little eerie.
